Impedance transformer

On high frequencies, impedance transformer plays the same role as the classical transformer on lower frequencies: voltage, current and impedance are transformed. Transformers differ in their construction.

As the simplest impedance transformer, one-quarter-wavelength-long transmission line can be used. The following relation describes such transmission line:

Here, Z_0tr ² is squared value of characteristic impedance of transmission line. If the impedance Z_0out ends the transmission line, then the impedance Z_0in appears at its input.
