Impedance transformer

On high frequencies, impedance transformer plays the same role as the classical transformer on lower frequencies: voltage, current and impedance are transformed. Transformers differ in their construction.

As the simplest impedance transformer, one-quarter-wavelength-long transmission line can be used. The following relation describes such transmission line:

Z0tr2=Z0inZ0out.

Here, Z0tr 2 is squared value of characteristic impedance of transmission line. If the impedance Z0out ends the transmission line, then the impedance Z0in appears at its input.
